A:  IRD Glass typically holds flatness within .000010" on a day. in, day out basis.  Depending on the substrate and the size, IRD Glass can comfortably hold flatness to 1/10 wave.

 

Q:  What angular tolerance can IRD Glass hold?

A:  Angle tolerances better than 1 to 3 arc minutes can be consistently reproduced by the technicians at IRD Glass.

 

Q:  Can IRD measure angles?

A:  IRD can provide NIST traceable certificates for angles accurate to within 5 arc seconds.

 

Q:  What types of glass finishing does IRD offer?

A:  At IRD Glass, you can request a rough ground finish, a lapped surface finish, a polished finish, or you can specify a specific Ra (roughness) value or even a range of surface roughness..

 

Q: Does IRD Glass do any fire polishing?

A: Yes, we do provide the service of fire polishing.  IRD currently fire-polishes the ends of a number of small diameter precision tubes to remove chips and scratches.



Q:  Does IRD Glass manufacture optical lenses?

A:  IRD Glass currently manufactures all flat and cylindrical lenses in-house.  Spherical lenses are currently manufactured by qualified partners.

 

Q:  Will IRD cut glass?

A:  IRD Glass is a high-precision glass manufacturing facility.  Although we may cut glass as a step in the manufacturing process, we typically do not cut glass for architectural or artistic endeavors.
