Respected Businessman and Owner of IRD Glass
U.S. Naval Academy Graduate and U.S. Navy Veteran
It is with deep sorrow and enduring respect that we remember and honor the life of Dennis Rutledge—a proud graduate of the United States Naval Academy, a U.S. Navy veteran, a seasoned professional, and a beloved member of the IRD Glass family.
Denny’s life was shaped by a commitment to service and excellence from the very beginning. Having grown up as a part of a large, farm family from Benson, MN, he graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy and served his country with honor in the United States Navy, where he developed the leadership, drive, and work ethic that would define his career and character for decades to come.
Following his military service, Denny brought his talents and experience to several industries, building a respected career marked by his unique leadership style and personal integrity. Some highlights include founding, developing and growing the Heartland Manufacturing in Alexandria, MN along with Keith Anderson and Dick Hill. After selling Heartland to ITW, he went on to hold key roles at ITW and Bellofram before returning to his rural MN roots and joining forces with Keith and Dick to purchase the IRD Glass business. Throughout his career, Denny earned the admiration of colleagues for his passion, innovation, and dedication to quality.
Over the last 28 years, Denny led IRD Glass in various roles as the President, CEO, and Chairman of the Board, where he continued to demonstrate the same high standards and collaborative spirit that defined his entire career. He quickly became more than just an owner — he was a mentor, a role model, and a trusted friend. His daily greetings and conversation with each employee helped shape the culture of excellence and mutual respect that IRD Glass is known for. His passion for growth and reinvestment helped grow and expand the business by over 500%.
His impact on the community didn’t stop with the work he did at IRD; he was also active in his church, the Chamber of Commerce, and many real-estate development projects. Denny was known for his humility, his kindness, and his sense of humor. Whether he was sharing stories from his Navy days or lending a hand to a coworker, he made people feel seen, heard, and appreciated. He lived with intention and grace, rarely seeking the spotlight, but always making a difference.
To Dennis’s family and loved ones, we extend our heartfelt condolences. We are deeply grateful to have known him and worked with him.
Fair winds and following seas, Denny.
Your service, your passion, and your friendship will always be remembered.
